Gathering Your Sacred Materials

If you are preparing this for your children, family, or close friends, involving your Death Doula or caregiver ensures the process remains joyful and free of stress.

Taper Candles (Set of 3): Choose their absolute favorite color (or your own signature shade). When one candle burns down, it can easily be replaced, keeping the connection evergreen.
Aged Bronze or Metal Candle Holder: A sturdy, timeless base to anchor the energy in the home.
Candle Snuffer: Used to intentionally and gently "end the call" until the next visit.

The Heart of the Ritual: Writing the Legacy Letter

The letter serves as a perpetual invitation. It reassures your loved one that you are never truly out of reach, encouraging them to light their candle whenever they need guidance, want to celebrate an achievement, or simply crave your presence.

Example 1: A Mother’s Legacy to Her Daughter

Dearest Kassondra,
To My Beautiful & Wild Moon Child,

Example 2: A Letter Crafted After a Loss

This ritual is equally therapeutic for healing unresolved grief. Here is the letter I wrote from my brother, Dave, to my sister, Kris, to help ease the weight of his sudden passing:

Hey Kris,
I know you still get sad that I am not “physically” here, even though I am always just a whisper away. So, Pam created one of her woo-woo things on the New Moon because we both don’t want you to be sad. I think it’s pretty cool!
It is Candle Calling, and this is what you do:
The candle holder was Blessed on the New Moon for you to be able to call me anytime you need me or just want to feel me near you. Any candle will do. You just light the candle and I will be there with you and we can talk, laugh, listen to your favorite music, look at pictures, and share a drink. Anytime day or night you light that candle, I am there!
Then when you want to “end the call,” you use the candle snuffer thingy and say "Talk to you soon," and if you listen close you will hear me say "I Am Always Here for You and I Will Love You Always and Forever."
So give me a Candle Call soon!
