The Chapters of Life: Understanding Tarot Suits and Numerology

MERRY MORNING & MOON, Sweet friends.
As we’ve discussed in our previous musings, I view the Tarot as a beautiful way to "tell stories." If the Major Arcana represents the big milestones of the Fool’s Journey, then the Minor Arcana represents the day-to-day chapters; the emotions, actions, and practicalities that make up our lived experience.
This evening, we are diving into the four suits and the power of numbers. Understanding these elements helps us find the positive solutions and validation hidden within every card.
The Four Suits: The Elements of Our Experience
The 56 cards of the Minor Arcana are divided into four suits, each representing a different aspect of the human condition.
The Suit of Cups (Water)
Represents: Emotions, feelings, intuition, and love.
The Story: This suit focuses on your inner world and your connections with others. It’s the language of the heart and the soul’s creative flow.
The Suit of Swords (Air)
Represents: Intellect, thoughts, communication, and truth.
The Story: Swords govern our mental processes. While they often appear in times of conflict or challenge, they are ultimately about seeking clarity and making decisive choices.
The Suit of Wands (Fire)
Represents: Passion, motivation, willpower, and inspiration.
The Story: Wands are the spark of action. They symbolize the energy we put into our projects and the drive that keeps us moving toward our goals.
The Suit of Pentacles (Earth)
Represents: The physical world, career, health, and home.
The Story: This suit focuses on practicality and stability. It is the realm of long-term goals and the tangible results of our hard work.
The Language of Numbers: A Framework for Growth
In the story of the Tarot, numbers provide the rhythm. From the first spark of an Ace to the completion of a Ten, the numbers show us where we are in our current cycle.
Aces (1): New beginnings, raw potential, and fresh opportunities.
Twos: Balance, duality, and the power of partnership.
Threes: Growth, collaboration, and the first signs of creation.
Fours: Finding stability, structure, and a moment to pause.
Fives: Challenges, conflict, and necessary change.
Sixes: Harmony, progress, and finding your flow again.
Sevens: Internal reflection, assessment, and gaining wisdom.
Eighths: Movement, mastery, and taking swift action.
Nines: Fruition, introspection, and being near completion.
Tens: The end of a cycle and the harvest of your results.
The Court Cards: The People in Our Tale
Finally, we meet the Pages, Knights, Queens, and Kings. These cards represent the personalities and archetypes we encounter, either within ourselves or in the people around us, who carry the energy of their specific suit.
